Tablet PCs and Diagnostic Software

SimulConsult's diagnostic software is well suited for mobile computers because:

• the software identifies useful patient findings to check, making it ideal to have the computer when seeing patients.
• the software uses a defined set of medical terms that can be entered into a Tablet PC dictionary, making handwriting recognition work extremely well.
• new Tablet PCs such as the Motion Computing LS800 and UltraMobile PCs fit in a white coat pocket.  Such Tablet PCs use Microsoft Windows XP Tablet PC Edition and Microsoft Windows Vista with Tablet PC Support.  SimulConsult's software does not run on Microsoft's less capable "Pocket PC" platform.

Here are some tips and resources for making the software easy to use on Tablet PCs:

1.  Add SimulConsult's dictionary to your Tablet PC dictionary:  Handwriting recognition on the Tablet PC depends heavily on word recognition so it is very important to include medical terms in your Tablet PC dictionary.  Add all the terms in the SimulConsult databases as follows so your writing of medical terms will be recognized with astonishing accuracy:

1. Download Microsoft's "Dictionary Tool for Tablet PC" from this link and install it.  If you are using Windows Vista you need first to download and install Microsoft's ".NET Framework Version 1.1" from this link.
2. Download SimulConsult's medical dictionary by right-clicking this link, choosing "Save Target As..." and saving the SimulConsult.DIC file.
3. Run "Dictionary Tool for Tablet PC" from its location (typically "C:\Program Files\PowerToys for Tablet PC\Dictionary Tool for Tablet PC") and import SimulConsult's dictionary to your Tablet PC dictionary as follows:
   • Click the Tablet PC dictionary tab
   • On the File menu, choose "Import text file..." and import the SimulConsult.DIC file.

2.  Calibrate the pen to point accurately on the screen:  In Windows XP Tablet Edition, using the Control Panel's "Tablet and Pen Settings" choose the Settings tab and follow the calibration procedure.  (In Windows Vista the Control Panel item is "Tablet PC Settings" and Calibration is on the General tab.)
