Become a Regular Contributor

SimulConsult is recruiting fellows, senior residents and doctors recently out of training who wish to get involved contributing to the SimulConsult database.  The position is paid.  Additionally, your work will be citable as a contribution to the medical literature.  We are currently focused on recruiting for the neurology module.

• Description:  The Contributor’s role is to add or upgrade diseases and their associated findings in the database for neurological diseases and genetic syndromes.  The material will be assigned by the Editors, typically centered around existing narrative resources such as articles or textbook chapters.
• Location:  Training can be done via Web-based screen-sharing.  Contributions are done online using the SimulConsult software.
• Requirements:  The applicant must be at least a fellow or senior resident in neurology or genetics, comfortable with reading and interpreting (often conflicting) descriptions and data in various articles.  An interest in improving the resources available to practitioners and the process of diagnosis is obviously helpful.  By personality, the applicant should be organized, good at assessing clinical information and comfortable with web-based applications.  Physicians interested in a minimum average commitment of 15 hours-per-month will be considered.
• Compensation:  Contributors get paid proportional to their contributions.  Our top contributors earn $1,000 to $2,000 per month based on their contributions for ~20 hours of work.

The application process

• Before applying, we request that you watch the demo videos and register for the software, or use it through the institutional access at many medical centers, and see how it does on some of the cases.  Choose cases that fit with your area of expertise, but remember that the database is not yet fleshed out well in many areas other than genetic neurological diseases.  Exploring the advanced mode of the software and clicking into the database part of the program will give a good sense of the work required and your “fit” with the requirements for the position.
